Here at Aspen Smile Dentistry, we help many individuals and families of the Aspen, Colorado area create beautiful, healthy smiles. Loving the appearance of your smile is important in your overall confidence. We want to make sure our patients feel confident in everyday life.

As we are a family dental office, we strive to offer services to our patients regardless of their age and needs. Because of the strong desire from patients of all ages for straight teeth, we offer traditional metal braces.

Braces as Orthodontic Treatment

If you are familiar with orthodontics, the diagnosis and correction of crooked teeth and misaligned bites, you have heard of braces. Traditional braces consist of multiple metal dental appliances that work together to move your smile into its correct position. Not only are braces a great option to improve the aesthetics of your smile, they are also highly recommended for improving your oral health.

Personalized Treatment

Each treatment plan differs for each patient depending on the state of their teeth and overall mouth anatomy. The first stage in receiving braces consists of working closely with the dentist to gather information and data about your teeth. To gather this information we collect the following:

  • Pictures of your face and jaw
  • X-rays of your teeth and jaw
  • Impressions of both your upper and lower arches

This information helps the dentist design your personalized treatment plan.

Once your treatment plan has been decided, you will be set with braces. Braces as a whole have many pieces that contribute to the result, but the two main components are the brackets and the archwires.

Brackets: small metal cube-like pieces are bonded to the center of the outer surface of each tooth. These brackets provide a way for the teeth to be moved individually.

Archwires: a wire formed into an arch, is attached through each bracket on either the lower or the upper part of your smile. When tightened, the archwires pull or push each bracket into the desired place according to your treatment plan.

Traditional braces are one of the best ways to enhance and transform your entire smile. Because each patient is different, treatment plans and timings will vary. On average, a traditional braces treatment takes 1-2 years.

Who can get braces?

Generally, traditional braces have been popular among the teenage and young adult groups, but have recently gained popularity in the adult population as well. If you are wondering what the right age is for your child to start orthodontic treatment, we would suggest sometime between the ages of 10 and 14. At this point, all adult teeth have grown in and the jaw and teeth are still in a malleable state.

That being said, we also recommend braces to anyone above the age of 10 who would like to straighten their smile.
